The 1st Elmira Scout Group is made up of 6 sections: 2 Beaver Colonies, 1 Cub Pack, 1 Scout Troop, 1 Venturer Company, and 1 Rover Crew. The leaders in each section are supported by a group committee. The committee is responsible for ensuring the programs offered meet Scouts Canada's guidelines and that each section has enough resources to operate effectively. The 1st Elmira Group Committee meets the second Thursday of every month at the Scout Shed. For a list of committee members see the Contact Us page. New volunteers are always welcome.
The 1st Elmira Scout Group is part of the North Waterloo Area,
which is part of the Central Escarpment Council.
We have a few leaders who are retiring and many others who are finding it difficult to keep up with programming and administrative duties since they are both section leaders and Group Committee officers.
Please take some time to look at the list and see were you might be able to help out.
Many hands make light work!!!

In 1912 as Scouting spread across the free World, Archie
Norris envisioned the merit of the Scouting program for Elmira Youth.
Fourteen local youth also saw the value of Scouting by forming the first
Scout Troop under the leadership of Scouter Norris. The outstanding jaunt
this first Troop made was a 10-day camp at the confluence of the Grand and Conestoga Rivers. The first clubhouse was
above Philip Christman's blacksmith shop and later was moved to above Herb
Ainsworth's store.
Following the end of the First World War, local youth requested
Bert Norman become the Scoutmaster of the re-organized Troop. The Troop was now
located in the Armory, currently the rear section of the Township Offices. A two
week adventure in Port Elgin highlighted the activities of this Troop.
Clayton Allgeier formed the first Cub Pack in 1935. Under the
Leadership of John Bittorf Rovers began in 1964, Venturers under the leadership
of Gord Cale began in 1968 and Beavers were added in 1975.
Today, thanks to the generous support of the community, the 1st
Elmira Scout Group services the needs of its nearly 100 youth, leaders and group
supporters from Elmira, St Jacobs, Connestogo, West Montrose, Floradale, and
surrounding areas with a craft, storage and meeting facility and a clubhouse.
