Good news friends of Engineering Science Quest, our registration for summer 2008 is now open!
Rose and I are excited at the changes that we've planned for this summer. The biggest being the opening of a second ExXtreme 0 camp and a name change of our Primary camp to Banting. Our prices are staying the same as last year, $212/week for Engineering and Science camps and $250/week for our technology camps. One thing that should be noted though, is that we are only offering eight weeks of camp this summer. There will be no ESQ camps the last week of August.
You can read more about our summer camps and find out how to register by going here: http://esq.uwaterloo.ca/index.php?q=node/19
Please note, there has been a change to our online registration system. Starting late January 2008, ESQ is moving to a new online registration system. All users will be required to create a login the first time they use this system even if they have registered with us before. Once your account is created, you will be able to register for all future ESQ offerings in a faster, easier method. If you registered for March Break camp, the login you created then is what you will use to register for Summer 2008.
A couple of quick other news bits about ESQ that might be of interest to you:
Take care and have a great weekend,

And now for your Yes Mag (http://yesmag.ca) Science fact that you can use to amaze and
astound your friends:
Q: "Does the Moon rotate?"
A: " Yes-surprise-the Moon rotates. It takes the same time for the Moon to rotate on its
axis as it does to orbit Earth. That's 27 days, seven hours, and 43 minutes. That
rotation is the reason why we see only one side of the Moon.
The part we never see here on Earth-the far side of the Moon-was a great mystery until the Soviet spacecraft Luna 3 photographed the surface in 1959. In fact, the Moon has no permanently dark side and don't let anyone tell you any differently. All parts of the Moon get sunlight half the time (except for a few deep craters near the poles)."
The Medal of the Maple for Distinguished Youth Service is an award created by the members of the National Youth Committee, designed to honour those youth who have significantly contributed to the Movement and the spirit of Scouting through community service, extraordinary Scouting participation and a solid system of personal values.
The Medal of the Maple Award is to be launched in our Centennial year (Fall 2007), to symbolize the importance of youth involvement in our Movement's success. It will remain one of the national awards.
See Scouts Canada - Honours and Awards for more information.

I started off just hunting down the training pages for neighbouring councils for the website and figured I'd summarize what I found here. Go to the various council pages for the latest information.
Here is a listing of all surounding Woodbadge Part I offerings I could find:
I found this note (dated Sep 13, 2007) on http://nipissingscouting.blogspot.com/:
Scouting receipts now qualify for the federal government's new Children's Fitness Tax Credit, so advise parents registering their Beaver, Cub, Scout or Venturer to hold on to the registration receipt.
The tax credit only became effective Jan. 1 of this year, and only recently has the government confirmed that Scouting counted as a fitness activity for children.
Under the tax credit, parents can claim up to $500 in REGISTRATION expenses for qualifying fitness activities/orgnizations, which will result in a tax credit of a maximum $80.
Dues and camp fees DO NOT qualify for the tax credit.
Registration fees for the 2006-07 Scouting year DO NOT qualify for the credit, UNLESS they were paid in 2007. The important date is the payment date, not the date the activity occurs.
If any of your kids, nieces, nephews or friends are high school students in KW, and if they are looking for a fun after school activity that looks great on a resume and lets them learn about business, Junior Achievement may be for them.
As we've mentioned before, Sybase sponsors a "company" in the Junior Achievement Company Program, and some current and past Sybase employees (and one Sybase customer, even) volunteer their time Monday evenings to make this program a success. Program details are summarized below and included in the PDF attached [Contact Webmaster].
We had our first night with the students earlier this week, but we still have lots of room for new registrants and lots of weeks left before the program finishes in April. Please forward the program details below on to any potentially-interested high school students you know.
If you've got someone that is interested, they don't have to worry about filling in the form - - they can just show up next Monday night (Nov. 5) at 6:45pm at St. David's High School in Waterloo (King/Weber) to get registered. The program fee for the year is $20.
Thanks for passing this info along and for spreading the word!
